Strato, Inc., manufacturer of railroad and transit industry products, in Piscataway is seeking a CNC Set-Up/Operator for multi axis numerical control milling machine to mill surfaces of metal castings and stock according to specifications and tooling instructions applying knowledge of machining methods.

Reporting Relationship

This position reports to the Machining Supervisor.

Major Responsibilities

  • Set up jobs by loading program and fixtures into CNC.
  • Preparing and operating CNC machines to perform tasks such as drilling, grinding, milling, etc.
  • Understanding specifications of the task at hand and the desired result by reading blue prints, mechanical drawings, etc.
  • Prepare and load raw materials and parts onto the machines.
  • Replaces milling, drilling, boring tools and inserts at specified change points.
  • Supervise the machines while they execute the machine cycle and make any necessary adjustments to produce parts to the dimensional standards.
  • Inspect and measure finished products and compare them with dimensional requirements to determine if the parts have been machined to the quality standards.
  • Uses inspection gages such as verniers, scales, micrometers and pin gages.
  • Check and maintain machinery daily to ensure functionality.
  • Operate within all safety guidelines.

Assembles orders and prepares goods for shipment. Receives, unpacks, inspects and stores incoming materials and supplies. Uses shipping records to verify the accuracy of incoming and outgoing shipments and orders. Documents damages and discrepancies for future reimbursement and reconciliation.

Major Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Shipping and Receiving Supervisor, will complete day to day clerical duties.

Job Requirements

  • Compares identifying information from pick tickets to complete bills of lading, invoices, and any related paperwork needed for shipments (labels, export paperwork, Certificate of Conformance, etc.)
  • Determines method of shipment, utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, routes and rates and computer programs.  Schedules carriers for daily pick-ups.
  • Interacts via email and telephone with customer service and carriers to ensure on-time shipments.
  • Posts weights and shipping charges.  Utilize and fully understands UPS, FedEx, DHL procedures.
  • Inputs data in the computer database, and reports all findings/ discrepancies to appropriate departments.
  • Interacts with other departments to ensure on-time shipments.
  • Troubleshoot problem orders, communicates with Customer Service.
  • Verifies and compares information from pick tickets and files all paperwork on a daily basis.
  • Prints all pick tickets from computer system.

Strato, Inc., manufacturer of railroad and transit industry products, in Piscataway, is seeking a versatile and innovative toolmaker/machinist to work in the new product development lab.  Knowledge of machining, jigs and fixtures, metal forming, and fabrication required.  Experience in machine shops and manufacturing facilities a must.  Experience prototyping and testing products a plus. 

Location: Piscataway, NJ

Major Responsibilities

  • Develops and makes fixtures, jigs, gages, etc. for both new and existing products. Applies knowledge of:
    • Machining & Fabrication theory and practice.
    • Shop mathematics.
    • Machinability of materials.
    • Layout techniques.
  • Makes short run production runs involving machining and/or fabrication, as needed.
  • Assist NPD and engineers as needed:
    • Simulations
    • Product testing
    • Prototypes.
  • Performs tests on new and existing products.
  • Support production and equipment to ensure product is produced effectively
    • May include repairs to equipment
    • May include maintenance to equipment
  • Design and develop and maintain testing equipment and apparatus

  • Must be able to work in a standing position for up to 8 hours
  • Ability to stand and walk on concrete flooring all day, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and twisting
  • Ability to lift and move 20 lbs repeatedly, 20-50 lbs occasionally and over 50 lbs rarely. 
  • Lift up to 40 lbs overhead occasionally
  • Exert up to 50 pounds of force frequently to lift/carry, push, pull or move tools and equipment
  • Must be able to torque bolts up to 300 ft-lbs using proper tools
  • Must have vision and manual dexterity to manipulate small controls, tools and components
  • Exposed to grinding dust, welding dust, burrs and sharp edges
  • Occasionally needs to move about and work in confined spaces
  • Occasionally operate vibrating and oscillating equipment such as grinders, impact drills, etc.
  • As needed, wear protective and safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, respirator or hard hats
  • Years’ experience – minimum 3 years’ experience or formal training in manual machining
  • Records of formal training preferred.
